6th lichfield
Scout Group
The youngest and most recent section of the Scout Movement.
Join in, and start your amazing Scouting adventure!
We meet on Mondays 16.15-17.15
Squirrels is the new Scouting adventure for 4-6 year olds, giving them there first scouting experiences, trying new and exciting activities, and make lots of new friends.
Squirrel Scouts was launched nationally only in September 2021 and we are very fortunate here at 6th Lichfield to have our own drey – one of very few in the UK.
What do Squirrels get up to?
Our Squirrel drey meets up every week to run, play, sing and explore lots of new adventures. Our Squirrels love nothing more than getting their hands messy!
Being a Squirrel is all about being small but mighty and making lots of new friends! Our Squirrels learn all about the world around them, get messy in lots of crafts and activities, visit places in our local area, and play many games. We will also introduce our squirrels to learning independence, cooking, fire lighting, teamwork, and even basic first aid skills.

Meet our Squirrel Scout Leaders
Our brilliant Squirrel team work together to plan the programme, run our weekly meetings, keep all our Squirrels safe and happy, and share their skills and knowledge. All our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible for everyone. All our Squirrel Scout leaders have their very own special names which you will find out when you join!
Emily aka ‘Darzee’ is our Squirrel Scout Leader
“My name is Emily, or better known as Darzee which is my scouting name, and I am the Squirrel Scout Leader for the 6th Lichfield Group. Over the past 6 years I’ve loved working with all the sections in scouting from the youngest ages in Beavers, through the adventure finding Cubs, and the thrill-seeking Scouts. I have a really good adult team around me and we also have some keen Young Leaders who work as part of the team.
Scouting is also for adults to! We are always looking for new additions to our Squirrel Scout team. Find out more on our volunteering page- just click the button below!
Badges and Awards
Being a Squirrel is all about trying new things, building your confidence, and giving things ago. From the first week you join Squirrels you will start working towards all the amazing badges on offer to our young people. There are a variety of different activity badges for our Squirrels to earn over their 2 years with us.
There are 4 challenge badges for our Squirrels to also work towards. By earning all 4, our Squirrels will earn the Chief Scout’s Acorn- the highest award a Squirrel Scout can get!
Joining Squirrels at 6th Lichfield
Sounds fun? Yes it is! Everyone’s welcome here. If you have any questions about how we can make Squirrels accessible to your young person, get in touch with us and we’ll have a chat. We can easily tweak things to make sure that everyone can join in the fun. We want to ensure your young person has the best possible experience in Scouts.
By joining Squirrels, your young person becomes part of a worldwide movement, dedicated to helping them develop life skills they can use in the real world, while having fun, adventure and making new friends. We’re so confident that your young person will love Squirrels that their first session is free of charge. After this, a membership fee will become due.
All you need to do is register your details on our waiting list. We’ll get in touch when your young person reaches the age to join and we have a space.
Update, October 2024.
At this time all of our sections are full and we have had to close our waiting lists. Please have a look on the website Find your local Scout Group | Scouts for alternative groups in this area.
Squirrel Scout Uniform
Once you’ve joined Squirrels and settled in you’ll be earning lots of brilliant badges and need somewhere to put them. This is what our uniform looks like. We are proud to wear the famous red and white neckerchief and if ever you see this in Lichfield, it is one of our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Leaders wearing it.
Invest in your young person’s future with us
Young people are amazing – we’re here to help them realise this.
Every week, we help our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to get going, get thinking and get stuck into all sorts of things to help them get on their own two feet and give them skills they'll be able to take into the real world. We call it our Skills For Life programme.
Our youth members get to try new things, master new skills, have fun and go on adventures, make new friends, learn about the world around them, help other people and help make a difference, both in the local community and in the wider world. With the right help and support, they can all be amazing.
Our volunteers are our everyday heroes that have empowered hundreds of young people that have walked through our doors to do all this and more.
That’s where you come in. Find out how you can help, in whatever way you can make work for you.
It doesn't matter if you weren't a Scout, or if you've never put a tent up in your life, and you don't need to be Bear Grylls. Our doors are open to people who share our values, regardless of ages, gender, race or background - people who help us make a positive change to our young people's lives.
So, if you're a tea-maker, tidy-upper, skill-sharer, minibus-driver, first-aider or a parent that wants to volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family, then perhaps being a volunteer at 6th Lichfield Scout Group will be perfect for you. Whatever skills you've got, and however much time you've got, there's something you can do that will help.
And if that sounds like fun to you, and if it sounds like it's worthwhile, there's a good reason:
It is.
